Make sure to tell your veterinarian what other medication you are giving to your pet. Quite often your veterinarian may prescribe two different medications, and a drug interaction may be anticipated. In this case, your veterinarian may vary the dose and/or monitor your pet more closely. The following drugs can potentially interact with masitinib: spironolactone, barbiturates, warfarin, insulin, and CNS depressants. Be sure that your veterinarian is aware of all medications and supplements that your pet is receiving. Contact your veterinarian if your pet experiences any unusual reactions when different medications are given together.
Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Be sure to inform VetSource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known drug sensitivities or allergies. If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, call your veterinarian immediately or go to a veterinary emergency clinic. Symptoms may include but are not limited to: swollen lips, tongue, face, airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; vomiting; widespread hives and itching.
Side effects may include vomiting, diarrhea, decreased or loss of appetite, low blood counts (including anemia), changes in renal function, and elevated liver enzymes. Your veterinarian may routinely monitor your pets blood to screen for some of these side effects. Stop Kinavet immediately and contact your veterinarian if you notice any of the following changes in your pet: refusal to eat, vomiting or watery stools, or if you notice anything unusual.
Kinavet-CA1 should be given orally as directed by your veterinarian. Wear protective gloves to prevent contact with feces, urine, vomit of your pet and/or crushed or broken tablets of Kinavet (including if your dog spits out the tablet when administering).
