Description

Kidneys' role is to filter waste and toxins from the blood, and maintain the normal balance of fluid and minerals within the body. As pets are getting older, damage to kidney tissues may occur.  This process is irreversible, and will lead to further loss of kidney function.  Renal Cats may also experience loss of appetite and their caloric intake might decline, which may lead eventually to loss of muscle mass. Hill's nutritionists and veterinarians developed Prescription Diet® k/d®, clinical nutrition to support your cat's kidney function and help sustain muscle mass.  In fact, the nutrition of k/d is clinically tested nutrition to improve & lengthen quality of life.

-Protects vital kidney & heart function
-Supports the cat's natural ability to build muscle mass daily -100% satisfaction guaranteed, or your money back

My 16 yr old Himalayn's kidneys have started to fail and I honestly thought when I took him to the vet... I may not bring him home. She suggested putting him on the HPD K/D stew... and it's SHOCKING how much better he is!!! It's like he got a new lease on life... I can hardly believe the difference. You would never think their food could make that BIG a impact... AMAZING PRODUCT!!!

I didn't know the cans came in all these flavors. I think my vet only carries one flavor. My cat follows us around and begs to be fed this canned food. We give her some morning and night and she is always ready to eat. I really would like to have more coupons available, or a lower price for the product. I feel I am trapped into buying because of her health condition, and the price is definitely much higher than other foods.

Old formula please

By

from California, United States

My cat has a heart condition and the meds have taken a toll on his kidney function. Our vet recommended k/d and kitty loved it until the formula changed. Getting kitty to take four different meds daily has already been stressful for kitty and mommy and now kitty is depressed with new formula. I called Hills and representative was extremely helpful and walked me through the transition plan but the transition failed on day 5. Kitty knew the formula has changed and wouldn't touch it. Kitty is already 15 and I hope Hills can bring back old formula so kitty can have good quality of life during his senior years.....

You've taken anothe good product and screwed it up

By

from Olympia, WA, United States

The previous version of k/d feline with chicken was much better, as was the k/d feline with ocean fish. The new 'improved formulas and textures' of both these producct are total 'walk aways' by my cat. The previous minced texture of both products was more appealing to my cat, she was eating very well, but now the pate is a washout, too soft, too runny. Go back to the older texture or give pet owners a choice what to eed their pet.

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Feline Kidney Care with Chicken Canned Cat Food:

My little buddies are getting older and their kidneys are too. The issues I have is the price, it is expensive and you can only buy it from certain places. Also not all discounts wil apply...I get lots of emails to save 15-25% off my order and I was told by PetFlow the makers put a restriction on the amount they will allow off which is only 10% or lessHowever my BOYZ are worth it and more

Improved texture but NOT formula

By

from Jackson, NJ, United States

My cat LOVED the [k/d with chicken]. I've never had a problem getting her to eat her food. Now this new [k/d pate with chicken] smells like death rolled over, she won't go near her bowl and I don't blame her. Even mixing in the k/d with chicken and the k/d pate barely helps. Every day is now a struggle to get her to eat at least 1/2 a can worth of food. I hope I will still be able to get [k/d with chicken].

3.5 stars on previous recipe, 1 star on "improved" version

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Feline Kidney Care with Chicken Canned Cat Food:

Petflow apparently doesn't have anyone examining the condition of the product before it is shipped, so you will receive cans that are bent and dented. Not just a few cans but sometimes the whole case with the exception of 1 or 2 perfect cans. The recipe that doesn't say "improved formula texture" smells good and cats like that I mix it with the original ocean fish version. I believe this is helping all my cats, especially the older one diagnosed with kidney disease. The new so called improved version, smells like feces and some cans in the case of 24 are worse than others. The best buy date will read next year or the year after, but I think that's a deception. I had this problem with some of the ocean fish cans. I wonder if they printed out a new label and glued it on the questionable older models or used the same recipe using rotten ingredients? When the original k/d chicken (canned or dry) smells off, it usually smells like rotting garbage. When the food smells good, it's a relief because Hills is one of two companies my vet recommended for kidney food. Under the "Bottom Line", the answer is yes & no because of the reasons I described. But Pet Flow doesn't allow this response except here.

"Improved" Formula and Texture? MY CAT WON'T EAT

By

from Los Angeles, CA, United States

I have been buying this product for months, my cat WILL NOT eat the new formula. Please return to the old formula!!! This food is critical to renal health since it is prescription diet tailored to specific needs. I am struggling to get my cat to eat now and am very disappointed.

Teddie eats 1 can per day, along with some rx dry food. He uses the chicken and now the tuna, which is new to him, and he adores that!

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Feline Kidney Care with Chicken Canned Cat Food:

Most of the time, the food is good quality and my cats love it. But occasionally I come across a can with questionable freshness. Write down the Best by/exp. date, and all the numbers on the can. If there's a can that smells weird and you're wondering whether it's safe to feed to your cat with kidney disease or a sensitive digestive tract, Petflow is legally responsible for reimbursing you because that is Hill's guarantee. When the food is good, it smells good. When this one is bad it smell off, and kind of like garbage. This has happened when there is a year best by date. The sales here don't usually include this particular brand of prescription cat food, but I think for the first timers there's a sale that makes it worth your while. I'm not sure if it is reoccurring. There are also $5 and at rare times, $10 coupons that you can get from the manufacturer. The price is pretty high, so if there is a less expensive brand your vet is okay with, then go with that. My cat doesn't like the ones made with stew so it just gets wasted. The price for this product is very expensive and it's hard to understand that.

Helps keep my 17 yr. olds vitals healthy.

      By

      from Onaway, MI, United States

The k/d helps keep my cat on the healthy side. The food doesn't have an unpleasant smell. It actually smells good. Always a consistent texture and quality, which my cat and I have grown accustomed to. I will not be switching.
