Kidneys' role is to filter waste and toxins from the blood, and maintain the normal balance of fluid and minerals within the body. As pets are getting older, damage to kidney tissues may occur. This process is irreversible, and will lead to further loss of kidney function. Renal Cats may also experience loss of appetite and their caloric intake might decline, which may lead eventually to loss of muscle mass. Hill's nutritionists and veterinarians developed Prescription Diet® k/d®, clinical nutrition to support your cat's kidney function and help sustain muscle mass. In fact, the nutrition of k/d is clinically tested nutrition to improve & lengthen quality of life.
-Protects vital kidney & heart function
-Supports the cat's natural ability to build muscle mass daily -100% satisfaction guaranteed, or your money back

My 16 yr old Himalayn's kidneys have started to fail and I honestly thought when I took him to the vet... I may not bring him home. She suggested putting him on the HPD K/D stew... and it's SHOCKING how much better he is!!! It's like he got a new lease on life... I can hardly believe the difference. You would never think their food could make that BIG a impact... AMAZING PRODUCT!!!

I didn't know the cans came in all these flavors. I think my vet only carries one flavor. My cat follows us around and begs to be fed this canned food. We give her some morning and night and she is always ready to eat. I really would like to have more coupons available, or a lower price for the product. I feel I am trapped into buying because of her health condition, and the price is definitely much higher than other foods.

Smells terrible, stinks up our whole kitchen, finally had to feed cats in garage. Can't even throw cans in the trash can under the sink. phewwwwww!
This formula may be good for my cat and was prescribed by my vet but my cat doesn't like the taste and refuses to eat it.
My rescue cat, Molly, turned out to be older than anyone first thought, and she has developed some age-related health conditions. Her veterinarian recommended trying Hill's k/d. Molly has a voracious appetite, but she is very picky about what she wants to eat. I was concerned, because when she first came to live with me, it took a while to find what she wanted to eat. I knew better than to try seafood or beef, so I tried both the chicken pate and the stew. Molly wanted nothing to do with the stew, which I surmised when I saw her bowl upside down and stew spattered all over her placemat. However, much to my relief, she loves the chicken pate! It gets devoured within minutes after being served. So far, her health conditions have remained in check. She has lost three pounds (she was a chunky monkey), and is now in a healthy weight range. She is more active, and her favorite game being unrolling the toilet paper. I'm sure a lot of that has to do with her new diet.
I don't know why Hill's decided to change the formula on the k/d pate with chicken, but it wasn't a good change. The new food is so runny and seems to be mostly water.
Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Feline Kidney Care with Chicken Canned Cat Food:
So far, so good. Both cats seem to like it. I have one picky eater and a garbage gut. It took a little longer than I expected for them to verify the prescription but once that was done, it came super fast as usual with petflow.

we rescued Bootsy 8 years ago. shortly after taking her in we discovered that she was in severe renal failure. after trying a few prescription food we started feeding her Hills KD chicken stew. this was the only prescription food she would eat. she eats twice a day as well as biscuits 3 times a day. she had gotten very thin so our vet suggested added potatoes to her foods to give her some carbs. I add regular and sweet potatoes to her stew now and she loves it. she quickly gained some weight. it would be nice if the potatoes were already in the stew.
My cats loved the chicken until the formula changed. Now neither of them will take a single bite of it. It wasn't a problem at first because they loved the Ocean Fish flavor. Now that has changed and they dislike it. Hills, what are you doing????
My cat's kidney values are creeping up as he ages. I recently switched him to this food per my vet's recommendation and he's back to gobbling down his food. It's been great to see his healthy appetite back. Also, I love reading other people's posts how this helped their kitty!
My cat has been on the k/d chicken pate for several months. At first she loved it and I could see a positive change in her because of the food. I would open the can and you could tell the food was wet and soft. Now I open the can and the food is barely wet at all. When I scoop it out of the can it literally crumbles. Cats receive the majority of their hydration from the food they eat so why would you make a 'wet' food that is not wet. She won't eat it unless I refuse to provide her with the dry k/d chicken flavor. She is also more thirsty with the new formula than with the old. I have read so many complaints regarding the new formula and the old formula worked so well so why change it? Please go back to the old formula for the chicken flavored pate.
My cat has a heart condition and the meds have taken a toll on his kidney function. Our vet recommended k/d and kitty loved it until the formula changed. Getting kitty to take four different meds daily has already been stressful for kitty and mommy and now kitty is depressed with new formula. I called Hills and representative was extremely helpful and walked me through the transition plan but the transition failed on day 5. Kitty knew the formula has changed and wouldn't touch it. Kitty is already 15 and I hope Hills can bring back old formula so kitty can have good quality of life during his senior years.....
