Oral Health
Dental care for your pet may be more important than you think. The accumulation of bacteria laden plaque above the gum line can lead to long term oral health issues. Recent studies have demonstrated there is an association between oral health issues and systemic general health issues affecting the kidney, heart and metabolic systems. At Hills, nutritionists and veterinarians have developed clinical nutrition especially formulated to keep your dog's teeth clean and help control the oral bacteria found in plaque.

* Unique kibble scrubs away laden plaque in the mouth to promote systemic health
* Clinically proven to reduce plaque, stain and tartar buildup in dogs under 20 lbs body weight
* Reduces bad breath
* Added antioxidants to control cell oxidation and promote a healthy immune system
* Awarded the Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC) Seal of Acceptance for helping reduce both plaque and tartar accumulation

This food requires a veterinary prescription.

My chihuahua and bluetick beagle are fed the T/D as recommended by their vet to promote clean and healthy teeth. I am unable to brush their teeth and purchased the Hills T/D as a means of cleaning their teeth. I feed them 6 to 8 pieces a day as snacks. The T/D is better for them nutritionally than otc snacks. I will eventually phase out the Taste of the Wild food they are accustomed to and feed them Hill's T/D only. For now they love the Hill's as a snack.

When I had cats they had the feline version and it was like magic on their teeth so naturally I wanted to give it to my dog. Unfortunately, even the small bites are way too big for my 4.5 lb. Yorkie. I can't chop them up because then they are too sharp for her mouth and too crumbley to be effective. Her mouth and her teeth are way smaller than the smallest of my cats and she just can't manage even the small bites. I really hope Hills recognizes that there are now millions of tiny dogs out here that need cat-sized bites for their minuscule mouths. Such a great product except for this.

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet t/d Canine Dental Care Chicken Flavor Dry Dog Food:

I have been feeding TD Prescription to my dog since 2010 and even though we used all this time, we had to do dental cleaning with general anesthesia this year. When I read the label and I saw the ingredients I decided not using it anymore. I wouldn't eat it myself so I will not feed my dog with it.

      Sparkly whites!

      By

My dog is 8 years old, her teeth aren't in the best of shape. She loves her dry food, but I know that isn't enough and the kibble are so small. So I invested in Hills Science Diet T/D from my vet. I use them as treats instead of milk bones etc. My dogs think they are literally the best treats ever! With their old treats they would sniff it and look at me as if it say "do I ave to eat it?". With the T/D food, they never have to take a second sniff. I'm excited they really LOVE this as their treat (ssssh don't tell them it's really only dog food), and that it is helping their teeth in the long run too! The vet has mentioned that her teeth still look great at the age of 8, and the fact that she hasn't had a professional dental cleaning yet. Definitely recommend these for your animal, can use as the sole diet or just as treats like I do! They really work!

We put two chunks of this food in with her other specialty food to help fight dental decay and to give her a little extra something in her food bowl.

I mix this with their canned food and they just love it. My son actually uses TD as a treat and his dog loves it as well.

      Product promotes great features

      By

      from Waimate, New Zealand

Recommended by vet as her teeth were bad and some had to be removed. My dog will not eat Hills Prescription T/D as a complete meal. She will only eat as a snack during the day and even then only in very small quantities...2 - kibbles. Otherwise I think it is a good product but maybe just not right for my dog.
