We own a young, 3 yr. old, 110lb. Pitt Bull who developed hip issues less than 2 years of age. After supplementing his food with over OTC supplements, we discovered the Iams food containing the need ingredients for his joint health. Within two weeks of feeding all of out Pits this food, we noticed an amazing difference in the activity of all of these guys!! Apollo was now able to run, jump and play like his older Brother and Sister. I highly recommend this food to anyone who has a "kid" with joint and energy issues!! Hands down, the best nutrition available!! Dean & Kaye, Canton, GA.

We tried a small bag of the Iams Mature Adult Large Breed, and were less than thrilled. I can remember when Iams used to be known as one of the better pet foods on the market, but sadly it doesn't seem like they've kept up with the times or people's attitudes towards pet food. The problem is that cornmeal, sorghum, and dried beet pulp are in the top of the ingredient list. These three make up a good portion of the food, and they do little but act as cheap fillers. Chicken is the first ingredient, but second is cornmeal, third is sorghum, then chicken by-product (which can be little more than feet and beaks), fourth is barley, and fifth is beet pulp. Dogs need meat, not corn or sorghum. The food should not have to have extra 'chicken flavoring' added, not should it have caramel coloring added to it. Dogs don't care what their food looks like, so why add it? And even though chicken is listed as the first ingredient, that is chicken with up to 80% water weight, so once it is cooked, dried and added to the kibble mix, the main things your dog is eating are corn, sorghum, and beet pulp. I know there are several much less nutritious pet foods out on the market (like Old Roy which is basically chicken flavored corn and other fillers), but there are also many more with more meat, far fewer fillers, and no weird colorings or flavors. Like us, a dog can't be healthy if his food isn't healthy, and he'll end up with health issues as a result. It might be more expensive to go up in food quality, but this means a healthier pet, fewer vet visits, and smaller poops to clean up. We ended up donating the bag to our local shelter (where it's a much higher quality food than the Pedigree they normally feed). We will stick to Merrick and Wellness brands for our pets as they've done incredibly well on them.

More Energy and Playful

By

Comments about Iams ProActive Health Mature Adult Large Breed Dry Dog Food:

Our 7-1/2 year old Australian Red Heeler has been on Iams since we rescued her at age 1-1/2. We changed to the Mature formula about four months ago and the first thing we noticed was Maggie is initiating playtime with toys again, something she'd stopped doing about a year ago. She seems to by "younger" in her energy levels.

Great food, tough bag.

Comments about Iams ProActive Health Mature Adult Large Breed Dry Dog Food:

I switched my finicky senior dog to Iams a year ago, he loves it. Then when I got my kitten, I started her on it and she loves it. It's a pricy food for me, but I want the best I can afford. But, I find the bags difficult to open, I have issues with my hands. I would love to see a pull string or tab. THAT is the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. I would love to get some coupons to help alleviate my tight budget.

My old guy loves it :)

Comments about Iams ProActive Health Mature Adult Large Breed Dry Dog Food:

We switched to IAMS Large Breed Mature when our 8 year old Boxer started having more digestive issues. After being on the product for about 6 months now, not only does he like the food but we have less tummy issues to contend with. Will for sure continue to use this variety.
