I was using another brand of lite dog food and the dogs did not lose weight on it. I have used this in the past during winter as the weather gets too cold and too snowy to walk very often. This can cause weight gain. (In humans too) This food works and the corn meal does the trick. They don't absorb much of the carbs in the corn, but it fills them . Chicken is the main protein, and my dogs lose a pound every 2 weeks. The other No Grain lite dog food I used was keeping them at the same weight as they absorbed most of the other nutrients it had. They are on the recommended amount and do just fine. They are Pit mixes and are strong as Oxen, and they use protein very efficiently. I have used this on almost every dog I've had in the last 15 years and they all got lighter and were very healthy

I had been feeding my dog Iams Proactive Health Weight Control because of the low fat content. it has been working well for her for a few years. The packaging has changed twice recently which causes me anxiety. I wish the website would make a note of this when it occurs. The most recent change is to the name: Optimal Weight. It appears the ingredients are almost the same, but my dog did have some digestive issues with the new bag including colitis. I will not be buying Iams again.

My Dog loves the bite size crunchy and the taste

By

from Williamsburg, VA, United States

Jack was put on weight control due to surgery which required him to be sedate (hard thing to do), All of my previous dogs were fed Iams. As Jack has free choice and he maintains his weight, I see no reason to change until he gets a little older. He is very fit now.

Tried & True

By

from Newport News, VA, United States

We've been feeding our dogs this Proactive Weight Control food for about 5 years now, and I highly recommend it! We tried changing their food, slowly of course, but our dogs either got stomach issues or plain refused to eat the other brands (Blue Buffalo and Nature's Domain). We're officially an Iams family for life. Helps keep my chubby girl's figure in check, and my younger boy's weight at a healthy level, and they enjoy the food. That's a huge win in my book!

Just right

By

from Undisclosed

I know that the current rage is to look for ingredients that sound like they would be good in a picnic lunch, but the foods that focus on looking good to humans don't always work for small, less active adult dogs like mine. I look for function, and this food keeps my little Shih Tzu mix spot on her ideal weight, and has for years. Her vet is super happy about that, as she has a bad knee and as she ages, her heart needs watching. An elderly dog developing old dog issues can't afford to put on fat. My vet highly recommends that we stay with this food for the good results we've seen.

Value diminished

By

WE have been feeding our dogs Iams for many years. They make a high-quality dog food. As they have aged we shifted to ProActive Weight Control. Disappoint and now reasonn to no longer use Iams is the recent price increase. What had been a 7 pound bag for a very long time changed to 5.7 pounds when purchased today. Same price but 20% less food; I was shocked and we will long longer be buying Iams.

Will return

By

from Mt Washington KY

I bought this dog food and did not read the ingredients first. I will return and choose another Iams product. I don't want to feed my dog food that is mostly corn meal. I want something that is mostly meat, fruit and some veggies. This dog food has listed corn meal as the first ingredient, so I know that is what it is mainly made of. I know you have products with meat listed first, and I will select one of those even if they are not for over weight dogs. I not unhappy with Iams, but wish I had taken time to read the ingredients.

Great results

By

from St Louis MO

My large mix breed, Lola has been losing at least two pounds per month. Not too much or too little for her health and exercise level. Her vet is very happy.

Works the best

By

from Cedar Rapids, IA

I was using a Lite dogfood, and my 3 dogs were out of shape, much too heavy, even with a dry lite dog food. I switched to Iams weight control large breed dry food and the weight came off. It was like night and day, as they look and act like new dogs. Their vet is very pleased with everything with them now. Live and learn, because "lite" isn't always best.

Great Food

By

from Iowa

I have 3 dogs and the 2 adults (Yellow Lab and a Pit Bull) I feed the Large Breed Weight Control and it works great. The Lab was 110 in March and as of a few months ago he weighed in at 90! I feed my puppy the Smart Puppy food and she loves it. I will only buy Iams!
