Otomax is used for treatment of acute and chronic outer ear bacterial infections in dogs. By combining three ingredients (antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antifungal) Otomax ointment reduces discomfort, redness, swelling, exudate, and odor, while exerting a strong antimicrobial effect. Gentamicin sulfate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic active against a wide variety of pathogenic gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Betamethasone valerate is a synthetic adrenocorticoid for dermatologic use. Clotrimazole is a broad-spectrum antifungal agent that is used for the treatment of dermal infections caused by various species of pathogenic dermatophytes and yeasts.
Otomax is used topically for treatment of ear infections and other skin conditions of the ear in dogs.

For otic use in dogs only. Do not use Otomax if the pet has a viral or fungal infection. Do not use in dogs with perforated ear drums. Make sure to tell your veterinarian what other medication you are giving to your pet. Quite often your veterinarian may prescribe two different medications, and a drug interaction may be anticipated. In this case, your veterinarian may vary the dose and/or monitor your pet more closely. Contact your veterinarian if your pet experiences any unusual reactions when different medications are given together. Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Be sure to inform VetSource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known drug sensitivities or allergies. If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, call your veterinarian immediately or go to a veterinary emergency clinic. Symptoms may include but are not limited to: swollen lips, tongue, face, airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; vomiting; widespread hives and itching.
Serious side effects are not expected. Possible side effects may include skin irritation and redness. Talk to your veterinarian about any side effect that seems unusual or bothersome to your pet.
Otomax Ointment should be applied as directed by your veterinarian. Clean and dry affected area prior to use. Gently place the applicator tip partially into your pet's ear. Gently squeeze the prescribed amount of medicine (usually in drops) into the ear canal. A few drops of medication can also be applied to the outer ear if necessary. Wipe off the applicator tip with a tissue and replace the cap.
