I have a 3 yr old APBT and she absolutely loves this food!!!! From 0-3 yrs I fed her Blue Buffalo, which she liked, but she kept getting bumps on her skin. I changed her food to Pro Plan and she gained about 10 lbs. in 8 months! Even with walking 3 miles per day. After doing online research, I was impressed with the quality ingredients and it is made in the USA with local ingredients. I am so happy to have found the Merrick brand and I feel confident feeding it to my dog. I costs more, but alot cheaper than any vet bill! I love Merrick and plan to use it forever! Thank-You Merrick!

I have a pug dog that loves your canned foods and one pug dog that has severe allergies. The allergic one loved this food. However, your formulas have multiple proteins in them when I check all the ingredients. Why does it have to have salmon or turkey and chicken if the formula is Buffalo? Buffalo is one of the only proteins she can eat. My dog loved the taste but never stopped itching and after allergy testing, she can't have chicken, or any poultry, lamb or fish, (no fish oil either). So sad I have to switch. Wish you had a Limited ingredient formula for pets who can't eat multiple proteins. I still would recommend this food as it is a good quality food.

Switched

By

WOW!! What a difference this food makes. I switched from a very popular performance dogfood, that most exhibitors use, to Merrick and the difference in her skin and coat was outstanding. Although the other dog food was ok, I had to add canned food, just so they would eat the entire bowl. Most of the time I ended up throwing away almost a 1/3 of the food. What a waste. Not with Merrick. The minute they hear the velcro seal unzip, they stop whatever they're doing and high tail it straight to the kitchen. This is an outstanding product and I hope they're here to stay!

Wonderful food, our puppy loves it!!!

By

from Roodhouse, IL, United States

I bought this food for our puppy to start switching her over as soon as we brought her home. We have now had her for 7 months, and she still thinks meal times are just big treat sessions. She loves it! She is so healthy and shiny. Everyone at her vet always comment on how beautiful and healthy she looks (she loves her vet, and we stop in for visits). We take her everywhere and people always comment on her beautiful coat, so we get to brag on Merrick for that. Thank you for being committed to using quality ingredients!

Picky Eater!

By

from San Jose, CA, United States

We have a very picky, female lab who will turn her nose up at nearly everything. We recently switched her to this recipe when her regular food became increasingly difficult to find. She is also a champ at finding pills, no matter what we hide them in and spitting them out, so we wanted something with supplements to make things easier. Typically, she will not even entertain the suggestion of a new food, when she does it is after much coercion. To our very great surprise and relief, she immediately took to it and ate the whole bowl! It only costs a few dollars more than the food she was on (eukanuba Labrador formula) but she is much more enthusiastic about eating. Since she is a lab, we have had to be very conscientious about her weight, with the healthy ingredients in this food, we don't have to stress as much as long as we stick to the recommended servings. As soon as our 4 month old Doberman Shepherd is done with her current bag of food, we will be switching her, and possibly our cat, to the respective recipes. Very satisfied!

Want to like it, but...

By

from Atlanta

We switched to Merrick Real Texas Beef and Sweet Potato (38% protein) a couple of years ago largely because one of our older guys was a little anemic. Vet suggested giving him more protein so we found a very high protein dog food and even sprinkled ground beef on his food. None of our three dogs had any issue that we could tell. Sadly, two of those three guys are gone now but our 9yo Golden (with the cast iron stomach) continued on, drooling before every meal just as he has done since about one year old. A couple of months ago we brought in a new guy, another GR (this one from Turkey). For his first few weeks in this country he was on another brand's LID recipe with fish as the protein source. No problems reported by his foster. We switched him to Merrick RTBSP. No problem at first but within a couple of weeks he developed diarrhea. After a couple of days a trip to the vet. Well, their is bad bacteria (clostridium) so antibioitic (metrodazinole) for six days. He responded immediately. A couple of days after finishing meds, mucousy stool, precursor to diarrhea, coming back. Vet says is possible the most virulent bacteria were not killed or he reinfected (not likely) so try another six days. Stool firms up within a day. A couple days after meds completed...here we go again. We talked about it...let's change the food. I got a LID recipe from another premium brand. Almost overnight improvement began. After four days...it is in the past and he is actually acting a little perkier. So, I cannot give it a high rating. Probably just this guy's chemistry but I am unsure at this point.

My Rescue Pup Deserves the BEST!!!

By

from Bloomingdale, NJ

Dear Merrick, I would like to start off by saying how much my pup Rockie LOVES your food, treats & bones, as do I. My mother (the research Queen) recommended your product to me & I'm happy to say I'm very pleased. Merrick products are a great way for me to keep my pup happy, healthy & active. I also tell all my fellow fur mommies to get Merrick dog/cat food & treats for their pets. Our pup Rockie was a six month old pit-mix puppy on Death Row at a NYC shelter, until my boyfriend & I rescued him last summer. About 2 months after we took Rockie home I had a really bad MS relapse & he stayed by my side once I returned home from the hospital, especially when I had to take my at-home steroid infusion to treat the relapse. He has been my Rock through so much since we've taken him home & it's hard to tell who has rescued who? So many of my friends comment "it's just a dog" but he is so much more, he's the reason I am walking over 2 miles a day & staying active is essential for someone with a neurological debilitating disease. I eventually want to get Rockie licensed to be a service dog so I can show people how loving & therapeutic any pet can be & pit bulls are not evil. I feel Rockie has been & continues to be a huge part of my battle against Multiple Sclerosis. Keeping Rockie happy & healthy, keeps me happy & healthy!! :) Sincerely, Jamie & Rockie

      MERRCK TAKE OVER BY PURINA

      By

      from CRYSTAL FALLS, MI

I'VE USE MERRICK FOODS FOR YEARS BECAUSE OF QUALITY AND NO RECALLS. NOW THAT ITS BEEN TAKEN OVER BY PURINA, I WONDER IF THEY'LL CHANGE INGREDIENTS OR HAVE RECALLS LIKE OTHER TAKE OVERS HAVE DONE WITH OTHER COMPANIES. IF RECIPES ARE CHANGED, THEY DO NOT HAVE TO TELL FOR 6 MONTHS ~ BUMBER.

Comments about Merrick Grain Free Real Buffalo and Sweet Potato Dry Dog Food:

I am owned by two German Shepherds, one is 10+ years, the other just turned 3. Both dove right into this food the minute it was put into their bowls, and for some reason it seems they eat twice as much as they used to. I've just placed my 2nd order for 2 big bags, and it arrived just in time to avert the dreaded 'empty bag syndrome'--quick, let's eat while we still can! Understand, these are really big dogs, but if they don't like something, they'd rather starve than eat it. They love this food, coats look glossy and thick, eyes are bright, and even the old dog seems to have more energy. Highly recommended!
