Augie is a 10 year old Shih Tzu and we have been dealing with skin problems for three years now. I have tried everything from Orijin and Blue Wilderness to grain free Kirkland. And the vet routine of shots, pills, and creams which worked for about 3 weeks and then the irritation came back worse than before. He's been on the Merrick grain free duck and sweet potato for two weeks now. His itchiness is down about 90%, he isn't licking and creating hot spots and seems calmer. Keeping my fingers crossed that this improvement continues. Plus he is waiting in the morning for his breakfast and eats every bite. That has never happened before. Ever.

I have not used this product before but it mirrored the food my dog has been eating for years. Chili is super sensitive to a lot of food so I am extremely careful to keep him on a strict diet. I assumed that because this product was grain free & without fillers he would be ok. He was not. I am sure this is an excellant high quality food but my dog is strangely sensitive.

Great Grain Free Option. My dogs love it!

Comments about Merrick Grain Free Real Duck and Sweet Potato Dry Dog Food:

The size of the bites are small enough for my chihuahuas and the bag sizes are large enough to feed my Medium sized German shepherd for a while. The ingredients are higher quality, so I feel a little better knowing that they aren't eating total garbage. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it has regular potatoes in it too... The sweet potatoes are fine, but I don't think dogs are supposed to have nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes, Peppers, Eggplant, etc.), especially if they have inflammation/arthritis. So far my dogs have not had any reactions though....

My dogs do not like it.

Comments about Merrick Grain Free Real Duck and Sweet Potato Dry Dog Food:

I gradually added Merrick to original (Blue) food. Only picked out Blue. Refused to eat when fully transitioned to Merrick. Resorted to eating cat feces outside to fill the gap. Monitored dogs outside for feces eating and dogs began defecating inside.... Still not eating well. Bought calming collars that arrived yesterday. Hoping for the best.
I need to reconsider flavour maybe.....

Comments about Merrick Grain Free Real Duck and Sweet Potato Dry Dog Food:

My dog is notoriously finicky and Merrick is one of the only brands that my dog actually manages to eat a good amount of. She loves it so much. Plus, it's a quality brand with quality ingredients. I will definitely buy this food again. It's quite expensive but it's worth it.

Great formula and look

Comments about Merrick Grain Free Real Duck and Sweet Potato Dry Dog Food:

Wide variety of flavors and the kibbles are the perfect size and shape in my opinion. They're small pellets rather than wide, flat coin shaped. Definitely one of the pricier brands compared to Fromm or Taste of the Wild, but it's worth trying at least once.

Comments about Merrick Grain Free Real Duck and Sweet Potato Dry Dog Food:

I don't rely too much on the accuracy of the feeding amount. For my dog's weight, the packaging reccomends 3 1/2 cups. My larger, active dog eats around 2 cups. Go by your dog's individual needs over the feeding guidelines on the packaging.
