My cats loved Merrick food, I switched them to this after exhaustive research because I have a senior male with a history or urinary blockages. My "vet" had him on an Rx only diet and I don't like those because I believe they are poison in a bag/can, why else would your vet insist you use them and nothing else? But I digress... upon my research, I found two companies who I deemed high-quality and Merrick was one of them, so I set out to find some canned food at a good price. Once I fed it to my cats, they absolutely LOVED it. I tried every flavor of the pate, but I think chicken was their favorite. Salmon was a close second. They were on this food for a while, and my senior male thrived on it and so we kept feeding it to them. Well, a few months back I learned that Merrick did the worst possible thing they could do and they sold out to Purina. As a former veterinary professional, I know what Purina does to animals and I refuse to feed my pets anything under the Purina umbrella, and that includes Merrick. I don't care if they claim nothing will change, I highly doubt things will "remain the same" and that Merrick will "continue to provide the same high-quality" products they always have - because that's not what Purina is about. Purina is about cheap bi-products and fillers and toxins that hurt our pets, not help them. I was an avid Merrick fan, I told everybody I knew to use this food because of how my cats did on it and I want to see everyone with happy, healthy pets. Now, I feed my cats Fromm wet cat food and they absolutely LOVE it. I thought they liked Merrick, but they LOVE Fromm. I've told everyone I know to switch now that Merrick is under the Purina umbrella, and based on the comments on your Facebook page, lots of people are turning away from Merrick, and I don't blame them. It's sad, it's disappointing, but mostly it's frustrating because finding a new (and good quality) food is challenging if you really want to do right by your pets. I want to be clear - I do not use this food now and I will not use this food in the future, but when we did use it my cats liked it. However, now that Merrick is a Purina company I will not buy their food (same goes for dog food, we use Fromm now, too).

Something has Changed:

By

from California

I loved Merrick when it first came out, and my 7 cats were very enthusiastic about it. Now something has changed. The product no longer smells fresh, and though the cats will eat it, they aren't as enthused about it, and some won't eat all of it. The dry food seems okay, but when I opened a can of turkey pate recently, it smelled like stale meat and wet cardboard! I almost gagged! The wet food used to smell like the ingredients listed, and smelled fresh and good. No longer. You claim you haven't changed the recipe, but I believe you have changed the QUALITY of the ingredients. It's a shame, because now I feel reluctant to buy it anymore, and have turned to buying other brands.

Perfect Bistro Turkey Pate, chicken, rabbit, duck

By

from Antioch, Tn

I have been buying this product along with the chicken, duck and rabbit pate. My cats loved it and are very healthy. THEN Apr 20 2017 I stocked up and my cats wouldn't eat it. Why?! It was so dry, it stuck to the cans had no juice at all in it. You changed the formula or are cutting back. Until then I was very pleased. I will have to bring it back and try another beand of cat food.

sometimes its no good

By

from Staten Island, NY, United States

every so often about 1 out of every 12 cans of the chicken pate has dries out in the can and is covered with a smelly hard crust. When this happens the only thing to do is toss it out, my cat will not touch it, and if I do give it to her anyway, she will then refuse chicken for at least 1 to 2 weeks

I have a special needs cat that has to eat canned food. This brand is the only one she will eat, pate only. The flavors she likes are turkey, chicken and salmon.
