Our newly rescued pup was having issues regurgitating, and we were possibly looking at hundreds (or even thousands) of dollars in analytical, trial-and-error vet bills (sheesh).

Luckily, our main vet suggested we try Royal Canin's Veterinary Diet Canine Gastrointestinal Low Fat Dry Dog Food - and within a week, our dog was no longer having issues.

Thank goodness!

He devours it and is doing very well. We had him on one of the highest rated dog foods previously, but we think that brand was too rich.

Tip #1 to dog owners with dogs with digestive issues: start at the source first and experiment with different foods. This can possibly prevent you from spending loads of money on unnecessary testing, medicines, and, God forbid, invasive procedures.

Tip #2: Don't rely on this pet owner's opinion of this product - every dog is DIFFERENT! Get to know your pup - groom him/her, brush their teeth, feel their fur ALL over their body, wash them, and pay attention to their daily habits. This includes their poop, their sleep schedule, their activity level and their eating and drinking amounts.

This observation might save their lives!!! And, save you lots of money!

I have mixed feelings about this food. My dog kept getting six over the last 6 months until the vet prescribed this for her. My dog was sick enough that she wouldn't eat anything but loved the taste of this food. It also cleared up her GI issues (which had gotten bad), but is chock full of chicken--to which my dog has a sensitivity. She is constantly licking her paws since being put on this diet and doesn't seem very energetic overall. I'm very thankful that it healed up her GI issues but I can't keep feeding her this food that has significant amounts of chicken in it. I wish there were a hypoallergenic version.

          Great food for tummy issue

Comments about Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine Gastrointestinal Low Fat Dry Dog Food:

My pup has had issues with food since she got gastroenteritis when she was just two years old. The other brands of food and treats wreaked such havoc on her intestinal track that we almost lost her. Since then she has been on this Royal Canin Gastro food and has had no problems. She's a super picky eater so she doesn't like to eat the dry food alone, that's why I've only given it four stars. I have been mixing in the Royal Canin gastro wet food with the dry food and she's been eating it up! She's now 8 years old and doing great! Can't live without this food!

High in Sodium. Don't believe me? Try one yourself

Comments about Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine Gastrointestinal Low Fat Dry Dog Food:

I used to like this food because my post pancreatitis Yorkie tolerates it well and loves it then someone informed me about the high sodium in the RC dry lowfat gastro food. I did not believe it but then I went home and tried one. It was so salty. No wonder my dog drinks so much water after eating it. I really do not want my dog to end up with kidney problems as well from eating high sodium food as well so I discontinued buying this food which is a shame. I now feed him Solid Gold Holistique Blendz Weight Control for dry but still uses RC low fat gastro wet.
