My dog was put on Royal Canin Urinary SO earlier this year after he had surgery to remove over 100 bladder stones. Apparently he loves this food! Over the past 5 years, I had tried him on several foods from Purina, Iams, and Pedigree, but this is the first dog food that he has eaten consistently. It's no longer a struggle to get him to eat a full bowl :)

I have had two wire fox terriers. The first one got bladder stones around age 10. He switched to the SO diet and we started to notice his breath getting REALLY bad. My family had trouble letting him anywhere close to our faces. And if he was in a small room or a car, the whole place would stink of his breath. My family thought it was because he was getting older and that he was just getting stinky (the vet always thought he had very healthy teeth so that wasn't the problem). He was on the food for the rest of his life and family and friends were repulsed when he'd come near.

After he died, I got a new wire fox terrier puppy. 3 years later the vet found crystals in his urine. Since I was familiar with SO and it had worked for my old dog, I started my 3 year old on it. The next day he was sitting next to me and panting and I recognized the smell of my old dog's breath! The first dog was on the canned food and the second is on the dry but the stench is the same.

After looking over ingredients, my best guess is that its from the fish oils. It is absolutely awful. I'm going to try to find a tooth paste that works to minimize the stench but for now I feel like I have to keep my distance from my own dog! Avoiding surgery is important, but if you can avoid putting your dog on this food, I highly recommend finding something else.

On the upside, it did help my old dog with his stones. My current guy will have a check up in a few weeks to see if his crystals have dissolved.

When I ordered his food on line I put in the wrong delivery date. I contacted Pet Flow, explained the problem and my shipping date was changed with no problem. I did not run out of food for him. Your service is great.

It really really works!!!

Comments about Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine URINARY SO Dry Dog Food:

My dog developed a UTI and bladder stones. So her vet scheduled her for a cystotomy for bladder stone removal and placed her on this food in the meantime. Her stones were apparently too big to pass and needed to be removed surgically. Should she pass the stones, it could've caused blockage in her urinary tract. She couldn't undergo surgery immediately since she had just undergone a dental procedure (which is how we found out she had stones - during an overall workup). Anyway, she was on this food for approximately 3 weeks. She went into surgery and just before the vet was about to make the incision into her bladder, she couldn't palpate the stones. They took X-rays and lo-and-behold ----the stones were gone! She had passed every si gel one of them! This food has saved my dog and saved me from a large sum of medical bills for surgery. Tibby is forever grateful!!!

Comments about Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine URINARY SO Dry Dog Food:

Has to be on this food indefinitely due to bladder stones 2 1/2 years ago. Pulled through surgery great at 13 years of age. He eats it but I need to put a tiny amount of the canned Royal Canin SO food on top to further entice him. Could you post his wonderful picture on the site? Let me know if you do?

Perfect for my Miniature Schnauzer with bladder stones!

Comments about Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine URINARY SO Dry Dog Food:

My miniature schnauzer was diagnosed with calcium oxalate bladder stones a few years ago. He had them surgically removed and has been on a very strict diet ever since. Royal Canin Urinary SO dry dog food is reasonably priced, compared to other brands, and my dog loves it. PetFlow is the only company I buy it from now. They provide the best customer service and every order placed arrives promptly at my door step just a few days later.

Very Palatable Foods

By

from Mead, CO, United States

Comments about Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine URINARY SO Dry Dog Food:

I have had to use prescription pet foods both personally and professionally over the years for both dogs and cats and have found that the pets will generally eat RC Rx foods with no hesitation but I have had more difficulty getting pets to eat other name brand prescription pet foods. I won't even consider any other prescription food for my pets. Best of all it works. I'm sure the other brands of prescription pets foods work well also but it won't work if the pet won't eat it!
