We've had golden retrievers for almost 40 years. After the death of our much-beloved golden, we decided to finally get a Newfoundland. Discussions with the breeder, the new puppy's vet and our own research convinced us that we needed a food appropriate for Thor and his growth needs. Simon was tall for a golden and weighed 80 pounds which qualifies him as a large dog. But watching our Newfoundland grow from 20 to 50 pounds in 2 months persuaded us that our potentially 140 pound Newfie, needed a giant breed food if we could find one. We found very few brands that had a feed solely for giant breeds, not just large/giant breeds. And happily, Royal Canin was one of the top 3 feeds recommended by our vet. Thor is thoroughly enjoying it, and it seems to have helped some minor digestive issues the earlier feeds were causing.

Perfect for my great dane puppy

Comments about Royal Canin Giant Puppy Dry Dog Food:

I tried Royal Canin based on other reviews I read and the fact that the previous food I had my puppy on was causing him some issues. This food turned out to be perfect for him, he loves it and the kibbles are big enough that he's having to chew them instead of swallowing them whole which was the problem with the other food. He is now nine months old (110 lbs) and has moved on to the junior version of the food but still loves it and I don't foresee any reason why we would ever switch to another brand.

My Vet recommended I switch my Great Dane puppy to this specific food. He seems to love it, smells good, and arrived quickly! Plus I got $10 off and free shipping to my house so if I can continue to get this price I will order from here for sure! Once he is old enough to be on a consistent formula I will switch to auto-ship! I love the convince of having it shipped to my door automatically! Sure beats lugging my 2 year old son and a 35lb bag of dog food through a store and home every couple weeks!!

Not for giant breed puppies need to check again

      By

Comments about Royal Canin Giant Puppy Dry Dog Food:

giant breed puppies can not have 32% protein, calculi off and phos. This ratio can and does cause knuckling and bowing of the front legs on giant puppies. really need to look and check it out. happens all the time.

Our Saint Bernard puppy loves this food!

      By

      from Maine

Comments about Royal Canin Giant Puppy Dry Dog Food:

Bruin, our 8-month-old Saint Bernard puppy, was having some trouble putting on weight. He is our very first giant breed dog. Our other dogs are 2 Golden Retrievers and a Labrador Retriever, so we are new to giant breeds. Our breeder had us switch him from puppy to adult food when he was 4 months old to slow his growth down since you don't want a giant breed to grow too fast (it's bad for their joints). We did as she said and switched him to an adult formula. We were planning to keep him on puppy food until he was 6 months old, but she's the breeder and knows more about this particular breed than we do, so we took her advice. However, since switching him to adult food, it's been nearly impossible to put any weight on him. He is extremely tall, but he was also too skinny. He was eating a good 8-9 cups of food per day, but you could still easily feel his spine as well as pretty much every other bone in his body. We knew that he was way too thin. After consulting our vet as well as some other Saint owners, we decided to go ahead and temporarily put him back on puppy food to help him bulk up a bit. That's when we discovered Royal Canin Giant puppy formula. After reading the reviews, we bought 2 bags and started him on it. Royal Canin is one of the very few companies who actually makes a giant breed puppy formula. Most other companies only offer large breed formulas, which does not suffice for a giant breed who will weigh up to 200 pounds as an adult. Bruin looks fantastic since starting on this food! He has definitely put on some much needed weight and his coat looks amazing. We will probably keep him on this formula until he turns a year old in 4 months. At that time, we will switch him to a Royal Canin adult formula. I can't say enough great things about this food. If you have a giant breed puppy, this should definitely be your go-to food!
