Weight control and glucose management for overweight cats. Almost 50% of the pet population is overweight. Even a little extra weight can lead to serious health problems. Extra weight reduces play time, impacts mobility and affects the general health of your cat. Factors contributing to weight gain include age, lack of exercise and overfeeding. Many commercial pet foods are loaded with salt and fat, which improve the taste but also have dramatic effects on your cat's weight and overall health. Along with frequent physical exercise, choosing the right food plays a very important role in helping cats reach their proper weight. At Hills, nutritionists and veterinarians have developed clinical nutrition especially formulated to help cats effectively lose weight and maintain appropriate glucose levels.

* Clinically proven low carbohydrate, high protein nutrition helps your cat burn fat and maintain lean muscle
* Clinically proven weight control plus glucose management
* High level of taurine to help maintain normal levels of insulin
* High level of arginine to support insulin secretion
* Added antioxidants to control cell oxidation and promote a healthy immune system

This food requires a veterinary prescription.
Hill's is updating their Prescription Diet® packaging and a portion of the name. With Prescription Diet® m/d®, the current descriptor is "Weight Management"; in 2015 it will be "Glucose/Weight Management".

My cat, Dolly, has a liver problem. She must eat and drink regularly so her liver functions properly. My veterinarian recommended the Hills Prescription diet to help maintain a healthy weight and, at the same time, stimulate her appetite. Dolly loves the canned food and the dry food. I am so grateful she is eating a good diet and feeling well.

Hill's is a deceitful company with absolutely no morality. This food is absolutely way too high in carbohydrates to be recommended as 'healthy' or 'low carb'. Hill's has not allowed 3 prior reviews to be posted to this website, while all I am trying to do is share this information. A cat food with 18% carb content is not 'low carb'. Period.

A little pricey for the 8lb bag, but 3 out of 4 cats love it!

Prescribed by the vet. But he will refuse it more often than not. How to get hon to ear it is the current challenge.

      Great food, need better coupons!

      By

from Des Moines, IA, United States

I bought an 8 lb bag of dry and 6 cans a few days ago. My cat likes the food and eats well. He has not had any set backs since starting Hill's Prescription MD. There are no other choices of food to buy for my cats condition. The price is very high and my income is not. I have an obligation to my pet to keep him healthy and loved. The coupons I get help, I sure wish they were a higher $ value.

      Good Product!

      By

      from Parkville, MD

We started using this product a few months ago, as prescribed by our vet. Our cat "Lilly" loves the taste and it appears to be working towards getting back her "girlish figure".

My cats and the Hills Prescription Diet Food

      By

      from Louisville, KY

I started feeding this to my two cats about one month ago. I started giving it to them gradually mixed with their current food. They picked out the Hills food and left the other. They really enjoy it. I am told it is intentionally made in large pieces so that it helps their teeth when they chew it. They make a little mess around the food bowl but it is worth it.

      More flavors

      By

      from Roswell, Georgia, United States

We see the benefits after three months but now he seems to walk away from the bowl more. Too bad there was not a chicken or fish variety.
